Hail to the Virgos
September is one of those months that rushes in, every year, with a vengeance. This year, more so than others. Aside from the misery produced by the state of the world, the highlight of this month is that the MVPs of my life are born in this powerful zodiac season: my sister, my daughter, my assistant- to name a few. Praise the virgos! They rule my world.
This was my first year learning about the last weeks of August with no childcare- a rookie mistake to not plan for the lapse- and her father was also away for work. So I accepted the challenge of full-time solo parenting and knew that nothing would get done at the studio. I would, of course, make sure that she had a fabulous and memorable (exhausting) week with her mom! --I will be recovering for many weeks to come. Shout out to all who survived!
This is her at Luna Park in Coney Island, after a morning at the beach. We had the best time.
I am so excited for all the things coming this fall. Nothing has gone as planned; everything has been delayed and I am staying positive and looking forward to all the hard work I will be sharing with you in the next few weeks.
Here are the big ones:
We are relaunching our website on Shopify. Somehow we survived 9 years never updating our website on Squarespace - my "it if ain't broke" mentality...
The new website looks so great- it is NOT a web "experience", like many of my contemporaries in the industry: it is designed more like book, while maintaining a seamless retail flow. Everyday I am tempted to share a screenshot so, I will satisfy the itch with this lil snap of our Product Notes page. I am very proud.
MATER BALMS
The balms will be launching exactly when our skin will be screaming for extra love (end of September). It is truly beautiful skin food. I will make sure to share how I have been using it for the past year: It is my everyday/ all over skin nourishment. Again, I cannot tell you how long I have been waiting for this to launch - Mater's Waiting for Godot. All that is left is some furious batching, a couple of pretty photos and some serious studio reorganization for all our jars!
TORY BURCH FELLOWSHIP
The Tory Burch Foundation fellowship is in full swing. I may not have made a big deal of it here, but I was awarded the 2025 Tory Burch Foundation Fellowship—one of just 50 women entrepreneurs selected nationwide for the 10th annual program. Its goal is to support women building businesses that last by providing access to community, expert resources, and strategic support. It is keeping me busy! By it's completion, I am hoping to become a better steward of my almost 10 year old business.
Let's go!
I will leave you with an excerpt from a Francis Ponge poem entitled Soap, from 1967:
"...There is a lot we can say about soap. All that it has to say itself is in the act of disappearance of the very subject. That is why I find this subject so well-suited.
Soap has a lot to say. Let it say what it has to say with vigor and passion..."
Peace + Love,
Addison
